Last week, the Ontario Centre of Innovation (OCI) chose Moonrise Medical for its popular #TechTuesday feature, celebrating the Ontario firms that are reshaping health care. In the post, OCI highlights our mission to “reverse the statistic that every 30 seconds someone loses a limb” by putting vascular ultrasound directly into the hands of frontline providers—no specialist required.
Why This Recognition Matters
OCI isn’t just a cheerleader for local tech; it is the government funded organization that administers Ontario’s Life Sciences Innovation Fund (LSIF), an early stage co investment program created to accelerate promising health tech startups. Being featured means Moonrise Medical has been singled out among hundreds of Ontario life sciences companies for the real world impact our technology can deliver.
The Problem We’re Solving
Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is under diagnosed and often detected late frequently after tissue damage has already begun. Worldwide, this delay contributes to an amputation every half minute. Patients in rural or resource limited settings are particularly vulnerable because vascular assessments typically require a vascular lab, expensive equipment, and a trained sonographer.
Our Breakthrough Technology
Moonrise Medical’s handheld device is built around Pedal Accelerated Time (PAT)—a novel Doppler biomarker that translates pedal artery flow patterns into an easy to interpret metric for clinicians. An onboard AI engine automates probe positioning, image capture, and waveform interpretation, giving nurses and physicians an instant read out of limb perfusion in less than two minutes.

Backed by LSIF, Built for Frontline Providers
Earlier this year Moonrise Medical secured non-dilutive financing through the Life Sciences Innovation Fund (LSIF). The capital is accelerating our clinical validation studies at major Ontario vascular centers and funding pilot deployments in community wound care clinics.
What This Means for Patients
- Earlier diagnosis → treatment before ulcers form
- Fewer unnecessary referrals → less travel for patients in remote areas
- Data-driven triage → vascular surgeons see the right patients sooner
For health care systems, the projected cost savings come from reduced inpatient days, lower readmission rates, and most important avoided amputations.
Join the Mission
We’re honored that the Ontario Centre of Innovation has recognized our work. Their endorsement underscores the urgency and the promise of bringing real time vascular imaging to every bedside.
